Learning how to properly light your subject and background will certainly take some trial and error but it’s an important skill to master. For a set-it-and-forget-it approach, try green paint. You’ll need to have a spot in your home or office that can be dedicated toward recording videos with enough space and light. Portability won’t be an option but you’ll never have to worry about set-up time or wrinkles. Most users like the ease of using a portable green screen so they can record their videos from anywhere.
It’s not a complicated process as long as you have your filming goals in mind. Here are a few of the key configurations you’ll want to have in mind. Basically, a green screen represents a backdrop that allows video-makers to add new elements to their videos.
How to create your own green screen background
Although it sounds very complicated, using a green screen is relatively simple. For example, if your work from home location is not ideal, a green screen would significantly enhance the overall feel of your video feed. I use Zoom for my meetings and explain how a green screen can be used for zoom but I am sure it is useful for all sorts of meeting programs.
The method I used the first time did not seem to work the second time so I ended up trying a different approach and it did work. Large enough for video work also, I recommend the 6 x 9 size so you will have plenty of extra when photographing headshots or doing model comp card images. It would be very helpful to show colors that the listed item is composed of. They are great quality, can be popped open and leaned against a wall, or as I use them, suspended from a horizontal bar that is supported from the studio ceiling. Very useful for working at home on zoom calls and whatnot.

I was concerned about creases or wrinkles or shade. Etc. but when you pull down the screen you have a crisp, clean screen that vanishes on camera. If you have not read the product description carefully, these backgrounds are made out of velvety cloth. This is great for BLACK or GREY because the velvet texture will not reflect light. Adding digital highlights or shadows can help your subject look better against the new background footage.
From there, you can easily slide the cloth over your new frame. You should get 10 feet of PVC pipe if you want a 2” x 2” frame. Technically, you only need 8 feet, but it’s a good idea to have some spare pipe just in case. Again, make sure the fabric is taut to prevent wrinkles. RGB-capable LEDs can light with green; you’ll get the correct exposure with much less brightness and, as a result, have less spill.
HOW TO MAKE A GREEN SCREEN
Convincing results are possible whether you are working on a shoestring budget or have a feature film producer's backing. Simply toss the fabric backdrop over the line, then secure it with the clothespins. You need a 30-40% brightness green screen for a clean key. Be prepared to iron or steam out any wrinkles and creases on the fabric.
This may seem obvious but just in case, here’s a friendly reminder to avoid wearing green, even the tiniest bit. Anything green in your image or video will be filtered out. This could include a green tie, green cardigan, or even green earrings. I also don’t recommend using multiple pieces of poster board together to create a large backdrop because there will be seams where the panels meet. However, in a pinch, you may be able to make it work. Avoid shiny fabrics like polyester satins, as they’ll reflect light and create unwanted “hot spots” on your background. Sometimes these types of fabric will look okay to the naked eye, but will end up unusable when you pull your footage up in post-production.

Sometimes, it might feel as if you just threw two different footages on top of each other. In order to create a great video, you will need to pay attention to lighting, camera, shadows, and many other things. But in addition to getting your green screen, some kits come with lights and stands, which you need as well to bring your project to life.
It’s large enough that if you need to orient it horizontally it’s not easy to raise it higher. I had to return it because my webcam was wide angle and I needed a larger screen. The chances of me purchasing from this company is slim to none only because it cost me $80 to return it. It is not as expensive as other similar models yet the quality seems very good.
Filming in mid-day will provide plenty of light, and the shadows should fall below your subject, not on the green screen. Those colors are simply ideal for keying in post because they’re the farthest away from skin tone colors. You can use any color as a key—obviously, some more effectively than others. Experiment with this, but it’s likely a last-resort solution.
Have your actors stand 8 to 10 feet (2.4 to 3.0 m) away from the screen, in order to avoid shadows. Soft Light - Is a light that is diffused by an umbrella or a soft box. This light spreads out evenly when deployed & does not create harsh shadows.
